Attention, media practitioners!

These guidelines and precautions were issued by the National Union Journalists of the Philippines for media practitioners. Save the phone numbers below in your mobile phones as they can come in handy, just in case.
  1) Demand a warrant of arrest. The warrant should be signed by a judge and it  should specify the premises or items to be searched. Make sure that your name  is in the warrant.

  2) Object to handcuffs and other means to immobilize you.

  3) Demand for the names, ranks and units of arresting officers.

  4) Do not sign any document that might jeopardize your right to question the  legality of your arrest, such as a waiver.

  5) Demand copies of all documents pertaining to the arrest.

  6) You have the right to remain silent.

  7) You have the right to an attorney.

  8) You have the right to make phone calls.

  10) Call the following NUJP hotlines:

  For Luzon: (02) 411-7768
  For the Visayas: 0910-495-0077
  For Mindanao: 0910-495-0094

  11) Instruct your companions at home or at the office not to allow police  officers or the military to enter your premises without any warrant. If there  is a warrant, your name and your address should be specified.
